Delegation of the St. Andrew the First-Called Foundation visited Switzerland

A delegation of representatives of the St. Andrew the First-Called Foundation and the St. Andrew Endowment Fund was in Switzerland from June 9 to June 11 as a working visit. The delegation included Mikhail Yakushev, First Vice President of the St. Andrew the First-Called Foundation and member of the Endowment's Board, and Ekaterina Gerus, the Endowment's Vice President for benefactor and trustee relations.

Alexander Golovin, Russia's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Swiss Confederation, invited the delegation to the Russian embassy, located in Switzerland's capital, Bern. The official reception was attended by Alexander Berdin, the representative of Rossotrudnichestvo in Switzerland, and by Mikhail, Archbishop of Geneva and Western Europe and member of the Board of St. Andrew the First-Called Endowment.

The meeting was dedicated to discussing the proposals put forward by Alexander Golovin, Russia's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Swiss Confederation, regarding the development of social and charitable activities of the St. Andrew the First-Called Foundation in Switzerland. For example, the Foundation could take up the initiative of promoting Suvorov's Days, which are held in Switzerland every year and are immensely popular. Another area of activity where the St. Andrew the First-Called Foundation could become involved is a project to restore the tombs of the prominent Russian diplomats P. Botkin, V. Bacheracht and P. Kotzebue. The aforementioned proposals will be reviewed by the Board of the St. Andrew the First-Called Endowment as forward-looking projects within the “Russian World” program.

In addition, the delegates held a number of meetings with representatives of Swiss business entities and media, including Vladimir Gugkaev, Secretary General of the Swiss Chamber of Commerce, Russia and CIS Department; Guy Mettan, President of the Swiss Press Club; Nadezhda Sikorskaya, editor-in-chief of Nasha Gazeta (Our Newspaper); Luis Lema, an observer writing for the Swiss periodical Le Temps; and other members of Switzerland's most respected business and media communities.
